Subterra Vector terms of service

Effective November 3, 2026

These terms are between you and Subterra Ops, the company that makes Subterra Vector. They cover your use of the app. By installing or using Subterra Vector, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

The app store you got it from, such as Google Play, has its own terms, which also apply. The Subterra Vector privacy policy explains how the app handles information.

1. Your survey data is yours

Everything you put into Subterra Vector is your data, and you keep full ownership of it. That includes caves, cave details, entrance coordinates, survey days, team names, notes, shots, stations, LRUD, sketches, photos, symbols you add, exports, backups, and cave files.

  • Subterra Ops doesn’t own your data. Using the app gives Subterra Ops no ownership of, and no license to, any of it.
  • It stays with you. The app saves your data on your own device and doesn’t send it to Subterra Ops or anyone else. Subterra Ops can’t see it.
  • If you choose to send us some. You might attach a screenshot, an export, or a cave file to feedback so we can find a problem. You still own it. We’ll use it only to find and fix that problem and to answer you, keep it private, never share or publish it, and delete it when you ask or once it’s no longer needed.
  • Other people’s data. If you survey with a team or import someone else’s cave file, who owns that survey is between you and them. Subterra Ops claims none of it.
  • Looking after it is up to you. Subterra Ops can’t recover data from your device. Back up regularly and keep a copy somewhere other than your tablet or phone.

2. Using the app

  • Your license. Subterra Ops gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Subterra Vector on devices you own or control, under these terms.
  • Use it lawfully. Use the app only for lawful purposes, and survey only where you have permission to be.
  • Don’t misuse it. Don’t copy, sell, rent, or redistribute the app, and don’t take it apart, reverse engineer it, or get around how it works, except where the law allows that anyway.
  • Survey devices. The app connects to survey devices made by other companies. Subterra Ops isn’t affiliated with any survey device maker. Some supported devices haven’t been tested with the app on real hardware, so check readings from a new device before relying on them.
  • Check your survey. The app flags suspect shots and loop closures, but it doesn’t guarantee that a survey is accurate. Accuracy comes from your survey device and your team.
  • Not a safety tool. The app is for recording and drawing cave surveys. Don’t rely on it for navigation, rescue, or anything your safety depends on. Caving and cave surveying carry their own risks, and you’re responsible for your own safety and your team’s.

3. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Subterra Vector is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and that the app will work without errors or interruptions. Subterra Ops may change, add, or remove features and release updates at any time.

4. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Subterra Ops isn’t liable for lost or damaged data, lost survey work, or any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages from using the app, even if we were told they could happen. Subterra Ops’ total liability for anything to do with the app is limited to the greater of what you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim or $100.

Some places don’t allow these disclaimers or limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law that can’t be waived.

5. The app belongs to Subterra Ops

The app, its code, design, and symbols, and the Subterra Ops and Subterra Vector names and logos belong to Subterra Ops. These terms don’t give you any rights in them beyond using the app. Your survey data stays yours (section 1).

6. Feedback

If you send suggestions or comments about the app, Subterra Ops may use them to improve its products without paying you or owing you anything. This covers your ideas about the app only, never your survey data. We’ll never quote you or use your name publicly without asking first.

7. Ending

You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. Back up first if you want to keep your caves. Subterra Ops can stop offering the app or end these terms for you if you break them. Afterward, your data is still yours, and sections 1, 3, 4, and 5 keep applying.

8. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll post the new version with a new effective date, and the current terms are always in the app, under Terms of service in Settings. If you keep using the app after a change, the new version applies.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
